Empty Event + Case Push in AZ
This last week provided me with an extra dose of pride to be a part of the events industry. The Arizona chapter of ILEA and the Live Events Coalition teamed up to organize an “empty event” that brought awareness to the challenges that the events industry has faced due to COVID-19.
There have been some questions about whether or not these events are actually helpful. But, by attending one, I was able to see first-hand the impact of an event like this.
Having an impressive stage with no audience in a very public setting got quite a bit of attention. By the end of the day, I had my own little script memorized to explain what we were doing.
I had so many beautiful conversations with people who had no idea that the events industry was affected by the pandemic in such a devastating way.
The empty case push also got some attention. Around a hundred people got together to push AV cases across the bridge in Tempe, AZ.
These protests got the attention of several media crews and secured meetings with elected officials to discuss extending financial relief for professionals in the industry.
By the end of the day, I heard so many unique stories and realized how many jobs were impacted by events being shut down. It’s heavy. A lot of people in our industry are not doing well right now, and I would be lying if I said that I know things will get better.
But seeing so many strong individuals come together, support one another, and build a community was encouraging. I think it’s something that we could always use a little more of.
And now, here’s The Weekly Soundcheck!
💃 The time has come for virtual event strategy to have its moment! (10-minute episode)
I was the star of my first Whiteboard Wednesday, and it’s honestly nerve-wracking! I have no idea how Will does it week after week. But, this episode is all about why you need to have a solid strategy when planning your virtual event. I talk all about the benefits, the people you need in your meetings, and how this impacts your timeline. I definitely mess up once or twice, but if you have questions about your virtual event strategy, this episode is for you!
