Writing to you on a crappy day 😕

Hello friends. I am not going to lie to you, it is really hard for me to have the motivation and energy to write this newsletter today. I even thought about pushing it off to tomorrow because today was just a flat-out crappy day.

It’s getting really hard. Hard personal issues. Hard to be cooped up in the house. And hard to see the industry that I know and love struggle.

However, these negative emotions did prompt a really interesting conversation between me and my dad. We kept talking about how to get out of this funk and how to navigate these tough situations. It’s in my nature to want to be positive and to try and help spread that positivity in this newsletter and everywhere else. But the normal cliches just aren’t doing it for me right now.

It doesn’t feel right to come on here and say “It’s okay to not be okay,” or “If you’re going through hell, just keep going” or even “keep your head up.” If you love these quotes and live by them, please know I am not trying to take that away from you. These things resonate with some people and comfort them during dark times.

However, I personally don’t feel all warm and fuzzy inside seeing things like that after a tough day like today. Sometimes I just need to sit with this terrible feeling in my stomach and process all that’s going on.

But my dad taking the time out of his busy day just to sit and listen to me showed me that all I’m looking for is kindness. It was so kind that he just sat there and let me vent when I know that he is also having a crazy day. No cliches were spoken, no advice was given, he simply cared and that was enough to give me a little bit of peace.

You can probably already guess the message I am trying to share, but here is your daily reminder to just be kind, patient, and empathetic. While some people are getting by okay, you never know who is having a crappy day.

I’m sorry if this wasn’t the uplifting newsletter you might have been expecting. I’m sure this too will pass (damn I let a cliche slip in there) and next week, you will get your normal, fun newsletter back. I just had to be genuine and couldn’t bring myself to write about something fun and happy on such an emotionally draining day.

All of you mean so much to me and I want to thank you for reading this newsletter week after week. It brings me joy during this chaotic time. ❤️
